Imaging of the axillary vein.

چکیده
Editor—In figure 3a of the recent article on imaging of the axillary vein, from a radiological point of view and according to line A in figure 2, the bright structure that you named rib cage may be either rib cage or lung pleural interface. You can differentiate between them by their posterior shadowing as the rib cage has dark shadow and the lung pleural interface has a bright layering shadow with linear comet tail artifacts and as you cannot ask the patient to catch his breath you may see both of them alternately so the posterior shadowing is important. The lung pleural interface carries the risk of pneumothorax if penetrated by the needle then the vein in line C is safer for puncture than line A and B C.

متن کاملUltrasound-guided infraclavicular axillary vein cannulation for central venous access.
BACKGROUND Infraclavicular axillary vein cannulation is not commonly used for central venous access because identifying the surface landmarks is difficult. Ultrasound guided axillary vein puncture has not been well described. We assessed ultrasound imaging to guide catheterization of the infraclavicular axillary vein. METHODS In 200 consecutive patients we attempted to catheterize the axillar...

Axillary artery, the continuation of the Subclavian artery, initiates at the lateral border of the first rib and normally ends at the lower border of teres major, where it obtains the name of brachial artery. Variations in the branching pattern of the axillary artery are common. During a routine dissection of a 25-30-year-old man cadaver, based on the classic Grant’s method, in the Department o...
متن کاملUnusual Morphology of the Axillary Vein Forming a Loop around the Lateral Thoracic Artery
Venous anomalies of the upper limb are not uncommon. However, unusual anomaly of the axillary vein forming a loop around a branch of the axillary artery has seldom been reported in the literature. In the present case, we report a rare case of perforation of the axillary vein (AV) by the lateral thoracic artery in the right axilla. It was noted in an approximately 65-year-old male cadaver of Sou...
متن کاملPectoralis Minor Syndrome: Case Presentation and Review of the Literature
We present a case of a healthy young female with axillary vein compression caused by the pectoralis minor muscle. Diagnosis was made by clinical findings and dynamic venography. After pectoralis minor tenotomy, the patient had total resolution of her symptoms. Compression of the axillary vein by the pectoralis minor is a rare entity that needs a careful exam and imaging to reach its diagnosis a...
متن کاملTime frame of sentinel node visualization in early breast cancer patients using intradermal injection of Tc-99m phytate: Imaging beyond 45 minutes does not yield more information
Introduction: One of the major problems of lymphoscintigraphy is the time of patient presence in the nuclear medicine wards. The operating room schedule can be compromised if the patients stay longer than usual in the nuclear medicine departments. However, too early imaging can be falsely negative for sentinel node visualization and delayed imaging may be required. The aim of t...
